Martina Sorbara...Hmmm...I'm listening to "Casanova."
I've heard this song at least a dozen times and I still don't have a strong opinion about her voice. I don't get it. I'm very musically inclined, been playing this saxophone for at least 8 years now and I enjoy music more than anything in my life. I can neither find anything mean nor nice to say about Martina's voice. I'm indifferent to it, and with me, that usually isn't so. I find myself singing some of the songs I've been able to download off the net.
I'll call Jian sometime this week and tell him what I think. Maybe by then I'll have some sort of opinion on her voice.
Martina sounds familiar, that much I do know. She sounds like a mix between Sarah McLachlan and Alanis Morrissette, I think. Yet, when every time I try to test that theory, I hear her voice again and it sounds like the lead singer from the Cranberries. I mean, it's indefinable and aggravating me cause usually when a new singer comes out and I hear their voice for the first time, I can say "Oh, she/he sounds like (insert popular singer's name here)."
Christina Aguilera reminded me of Mariah Carey. Britney Spears? Cyndi Lauper circa "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun."
Martina...Maybe it's a good thing that I can't truly pinpoint her. Maybe this means she's an original sound and can't be compared (and no, I'm not meaning she's incomparable).
I'll bring it up with Ji when I call him either tomorrow night or later this week.
I've got a concert coming up and need to focus on that.
