There are a few things I didn't expect to hear until June or July when I wasn't home to spend time with him because I'm going to make all serious attempts to get a job on campus.I didn't expect to hear this.

Completely threw me off. Not only that but I'm considering the boundaries to be placed on my relationship with Dave. There are a few issues arising right now that are allowing me to take some serious time for contemplation.
I'm also going over the major points of my past with Tony, the good and the bad, scanning them for symbolism to use in a current story. So it was odd to hear him say those things to me but comforting all in the same.
