Quote of the Minute

Last night was just retarded.

Kevin and I got roped into going to Ruby Tuesdays because we didn't want to be the odd (wo)man out with Cathy, Frank (her new boyfriend), her two friends from home and our friends Jess and her buddy Matt. He and I get there, knowing we're going to be bitches all night; me - because Nick works there, Kevin - because Cathy was irritating the shit out of him. I fed off of that to renew my bitterness towards her, this was not intentional but it became so easy to do so as the night progressed.

Knowing the difficulty of getting an 8 man table, Kevin and I put in a reservation for two. Cathy arrives with her boatload of 5 other people. Two people with her are not who we originally were told were going to join us (nothing against them, I just wasn't thinking Jenn [Cathy's new roommate] and her boyfriend were also in toe).

Me: Where's Jess and Matt?Cathy: They're looking for a parking spot outside.Kevin: So there's going to be ten of us?Cathy: Yeah, is that a problem? They can accommodate us, right?Me: *thinking: Yeah, cause Ruby Tuesdays is exactly like the Olive Garden.* Just talk to the hostess, we told her that there were only 6 other people we wanted to sit near us.

Cathy goes to the hostess and then returns, "I told her that there were ten of us. She said the wait would be longer but at least we're sitting together."Me: But you just said you were alright with Kevin and I sitting together separately because all I really want is a cup of tea and that's it.Cathy: Well, go and talk to her (I should not have to fucking do this, you shouldn't have gone over, I say to myself).

In talking with the hostess, and Nick's roommate Paul (who also works there and was a great help last night in separating us), I make it clear my wish to be separated. She puts an asterisk by my name and I go to sit down, thinking it was all a matter of time before she calls my two person party.

And for a while, I thought that would be the only problem. Kevin goes off to H&M for what was to be the first of two times. I call him mistakingly thinking that we're going to be called in soon. He goes off again to H&M but Cathy (or the ringleader, as I liked to call her) invites herself and the other 7 people in her entourage along. Up until this point, she had just been in the circle of them, being the center of attention. They take off (and I hear that they basically just stared at Kevin walking around looking at shirts) and I'm left with two of our friends who decided to stay back while I waited. I think it was assumed that I would sit and wait for all of them to be called in, instead of just myself and Kevin.

They call me in, Paul had just cleared off a table for me and Kevin. He offered to bring me a free strawberry tall cake and said that he told Nick I was there. It was time to page Kevin to let him know that he and I had gotten in.

Let me set the scene. A set of 8 booths, 4 each mirroring each other.

I was in the third booth, right column, waiting for Kevin to come in or for Nick to come over and say hi. This is when it gets confusing.

I see Kevin and Nick being led over to me by Paul. But, I also see Cathy leading her friends over.

I hug Nick. That was the highlight of my night, seeing him. His eyes lit up when he saw me. I'm so not over this. I don't want to be over this. I've accepted it.

Yet, hugging him distracted me from the beginning of the stupidity in progress.

Cathy's speaking. "Oh, well, you guys stand in front of this booth...we can fit two other people in with Sally and Kevin and four others in the booth ahead of them (**second booth on your right in the diagram)...blah blah blah."

She was saying something else but everything was happening too fast. Where did she get off playing hostess? I thought something else which kept coming to mind several times last night: I thought she said she was fine with Kevin and I sitting alone. I thought she said it didn't matter. Kevin tells me that she took the phone out of his hands and said "Hang up, we're going in."

He was calling long distance.

But something happens when Cathy is around men she's attracted to, she gets mean. She says stuff that is cutting and later uses the insanity defense: I don't know why I said that, I don't know what I meant by that. And she uses it all too fucking often. If she uses it one more time with me, I'm going to snap.

Cathy's two friends from home sit with us and they were cool. I liked them.

Kevin: Where's Cathy and Frank?Brian: They sat themselves at the bar.Analyze the structure of that sentence.Subject: They (Cathy and Frank), Action taken by subject: sat themselves. We get our orders taken before the other group in the second booth, a waitress frantically tries to figure out what they're going to do because a party of 4 was called just after us and were now out of a seat. Maybe that wasn't why she was panicking but imagine if it was...

Within ten minutes of the 8 of us sitting in the booths, someone (not sure if it was management or someone acting upon their behalf) arrives to, for lack of a better word, kick them out everyone from "my" party that was not sitting in my booth. This included Cathy, Frank (who were at the bar) and the entire crew of four in the booth ahead of us.**

Not five minutes later they were brought back in and sat someplace else, the originally intended seating for the 8 of them.

Five minutes! That means they only would have had to wait fifteen minutes in total before they were sat down.

Nick called me later, asking me how I've been this past week and saying it was good to see me cause he missed me. I tell him that I think this past week was okay but I can't remember it too well because I've been preoccupied with the last six hours.

His words? "What was up with that stunt your exroommate pulled tonight?"

It's been an interesting Sunday.

To end it on a good note, I have a bottle of Bacardi Silver, a nice new lacy green bra, and John Mayer is going to be singing with The Police.

C'est la orgasm.
